A youth club’s storage problem has been eased thanks to thoughtful bosses at a leading trailer firm.
Not only has Ifor Williams Trailers loaned Corwen open access youth club a box van trailer to store its equipment, it also wrapped the vehicle in an eye-catching design to promote the work of the youth services in Denbighshire.
Using the trailer is a temporary solution until the youth club is given planning permission for a permanent storage container.
Youth service leaders thanked Ifor Williams Trailers for its support and said having the trailer available would remove a storage headache.
The youth club used to meet weekly at the Canolfan Ni centre in the town but has now moved to the pavilion at Corwen War Memorial Park, however that presented storage problems.
Charlotte Morris, community youth worker at Denbighshire Youth Service, said: “We moved it to the war memorial pavilion because there is more space for the young people.
“There’s outdoor space at the pavilion and bigger space inside, but we were limited with storage.
“There is less storage at the pavilion because they also have lots of other groups using it too.
“We are hoping for a container eventually, that would be the permanent solution, but you’ve got to get planning permission first.
“So we approached Ifor Williams to see if they could help out in the meantime, and they kindly donated the trailer for us to keep our stuff in.
“We are really grateful for their help. I was really, really pleased when they said they could wrap it too, I was not expecting that, it looks great.
“The trailer looks amazing and will really help us because it means the youth service staff can easily access the equipment they need on a weekly basis.”
Charlotte said the youth club was an important feature for youngsters in Corwen and offered a vital service to ensure young people in rural areas were being supported.
She said: “It’s a youth club for young people aged 11 upwards.
“It’s on every Wednesday from 6pm-8pm during term-time.
“There are two youth workers there and they support the young people in activities and issue-based workshops.
“The issues can be about anything, from mental health and wellbeing to anti-social behaviour.
“The youth club is funded by Denbighshire County Council and run by the council youth service.
“It is our core provision and we have eight youth clubs in Denbighshire.
“It is so important to have youth provision like this, especially in the Dee Valley area because it is so rural, so it’s about making sure services come to the young people.
“During Covid we became frontline workers and we did a lot of outreach work to the young people that we support.
“We gave them mental health and wellbeing packs that they could do at home.
“We did WhatsApp groups, videos and quizzes over that time, and the uptake was really good.
“It is so important to make sure young people have access to support and the youth club does that.
“There is also a pool table there, a table tennis table, lots of activities.
“They can do crafts, have a film night, and we’re hoping to do some tennis lessons on the new tennis court and we can do outdoor sports on the field behind.”
Samantha Williams, HR manager at Ifor Williams Trailers, said the company was happy to help the youth club during its move to its new base.
She said: “The youth club approached us and said they had an issue with temporary storage while they had a unit built for them.
“The club asked for a loan of a trailer to be able to store all their items, otherwise they would have to keep carrying them backwards and forwards.
“So we stepped in and offered them a box van for the temporary storage.
“We are happy to support the community if we can and we are more than happy to support the youth club in its work.
“I’m local myself, so I would have made use of the youth club when I was growing up.
“We always try to do our best for the Corwen community, and the youth club is another link that we have got to the local area.
“We are really happy to support the local community and it’s great we have the opportunity to help the youth club after they approached us and we have that open communication with the local area.”
