Youngsters pop in to say thanks to trailer firm

A nursery group’s plans to move into a new home has been given a major boost.

The Cylch Meithrin, in Cynwyd, near Corwen, is refurbishing the former village school which should be ready by September.

The staff and a dozen of the youngsters paid a visit to the Ifor Williams Trailers factory down the road to say thank you for the donation of £1,000 they received from the company.

It’s brought them closer to reaching their fund-raising target of £10,000 to complete the work at Ysgol Isaf.

Cylch Meithrin manager Lisa Jones was “extremely grateful” and said the money would be put towards the necessary structural work on the building.

Lisa revived the group in 2014 after a gap of around five months following the retirement of her predecessor.

The Cylch Meithrin operates five afternoons a week from 12.30pm to 3pm catering for children aged between two and four.

They currently meet in the hall at the nearby primary school, Ysgol Bro Dyfrdwy which means they have to set up and clear away all their equipment every day.

She said: “To get Ysgol Isaf ready, it needs a new floor, new windows and a new kitchen as well as a new heating system.

“So we have been busy raising money with a whole series of events including an afternoon tea, a darts night and a community fair

“I have 34 children on the register, at the moment we can cater for 14 children a session, but when we move it will be 19 every session.

“The nursery is very popular because the children can learn Welsh from such a young age.

“It gives the children a good start and prepares them for school life.

“The community has been great to us and we’re getting a lot of of local support because they appreciate what we do.

“The parents also work very hard to support us and we are extremely grateful to them.

The cheque was presented to the Cylch Meithrin by Megan Hatton, the Office Manager at Ifor Williams Trailers, who works closely with local schools and the community to support good causes.

She said: “We are very much a community based company so we were pleased to be able to support the group in this way.

“The Cylch Meithrin are doing a really important job in preparing the little ones for school life.

“A number of the youngsters have family members working for Ifor Williams Trailers and you never know, some of them might also be future employees.”

"These days a  lot of children stay home on their computers so a bit of fresh air and running around is very good for them."
