The praise from Clwyd South MP Martyn Jones came on a visit to the headquarters of Ifor Williams Trailers in Cynwyd, near Corwen.

Mr Jones also paid tribute to ingenuity and the cutting edge spirit of the company which had its 50th anniversary last year.

He said: "They are a very go-getting company and in the last four or five years they have put in place a lot of streamlining which is standing them in good stead to ride the recession.

"They have a very good product range with many different trailers aimed at different markets which again will be a big help.

"I am very supportive of Ifor Williams Trailers because they are an indigenous company who have been successful in the face of stiff competition.

"They are major employers in an area where there are very few quality jobs – in an area which would otherwise be struggling for such good jobs.

"They deserve all the support they can get from me, the local authority and the Welsh Assembly.

"They are one of the few Welsh companies who are true market leaders – they are an iconic brand.

"It’s good that a company based in a rural area can be so cutting edge."

"I have an Ifor Williams Trailers watch whenever I drive back and forth to London and indeed I saw them when I was driving down to Spain last year.

"It gives me a nice warm feeling to know that these trailers were all built in my constituency.

During the visit Mr Jones was shown one of the latest trailers to roll off the production line.

The GH94 was honoured at the Safety and Health Practitioner Awards as result of the firm’s collaboration with construction giant Balfour Beatty and excavator makers JCB and Kubota.

The modifications to the GH94, which is used for carrying plant and machinery, earned a runner up prize in the category for the Partnership Initiative of the Year.

Mr Jones added: "The company is also very innovative and today I have seen their new GH94 trailer which, although it is small, can take a very heavy load.

"It’s a very good trailer which I have not seen any where else and I hope that it’s successful."

Andrew Reece-Jones, the Design Engineering Manager at Ifor Williams Trailers, said: "We were delighted that Mr Jones was able to visit the company once again.

"Mr Jones has a strong background in manufacturing and we value his opinions highly."

"It is gratifying to know that he holds the company in such high esteem and regards us as an important employer in his constituency."
