Frequently Asked Questions regarding the maintenance of your trailer.
2. The finish on the timber panels has dulled on my hunter trailer. Could you recommend a suitable paint or restoration process?
Despite the dull appearance the panels are still serviceable, and should remain so for many years.
Painting of the Hunter trailers with the resin-coated panels is not recommended. We have not found a paint treatment that will adhere permanently to the surface.
If the surface is sanded down to be painted the underlying timber will be exposed. It is extremely difficult to achieve a smooth surface for painting and consequently the resulting finish after painting is likely to be very poor. Further, the panels will have lost their highly durable protective coating.
As a temporary treatment to brighten the surface and bring out the colour, linseed oil has been used successfully. This will not cause any permanent damage to the surface, though the finish will dull again in a few weeks.
