Frequently Asked Questions regarding technical issues of the tyres, brakes and wheels used on our trailers.

    6. The tyres on my trailer are marked with maximum load figures in pounds. These convert to lower figures than those you state for the maximum on the trailer plate. Why is this?

The Maximum Load figures marked on the tyres do not apply in the UK or Europe. Most tyres are also marked with "North America and Australia only" as a suffix to clarify this.

For the UK and Europe the correct load and speed ratings are indicated by a code marked on the tyre after the size. The numerical part refers to the maximum load and the alpha part to the speed.

The 165R13C tyre we currently use is marked 94/92N.

    94 translates to 670kg

For trailer applications at 100km/h a bonus load of 5% can be applied, giving a maximum of 703kg.

92 translates to 630kg and applies to dual wheel applications as commonly found on the rear axle of commercial vehicles.

    N translates to 140km/h (87mph)
