4. Is my Ford Focus suitable for towing an HB401R horsebox trailer?
The Ford Focus is not really suitable for towing a trailer of this size. It would not be illegal to do so provided that you stayed within the manufacturer's towing limit, but it is a lightweight car and as such the handling would be likely to be to be affected by side winds. You don't say the exact model, but we would expect the diesel versions to cope better and the estate could also handle the weight better. Larger cars such as the Mondeo would be more suitable as its towing limit at 1500kg is closer to the trailer's maximum (1600kg).
The HB401R weighs approximately 770kg. You will need to check the vehicle handbook for the maximum towing weight, but we would expect it to be around 1200kg. This means you could legally carry a horse weighing 430kg.
